Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model on the critical thinking skills and collaboration of Grade X students on climate change material at SMA Negeri 1 Pringsewu. The sample was obtained through a purposive sampling technique, consisting of 36 students in class X.E1 (experimental) and 36 students in class X.E2 (control). This study used a pretest-posttest nonequivalent control group design. The data used were quantitative data from tests (critical thinking skills) and qualitative data from collaboration skill observation sheets. The results of this study indicate that the PBL model has a significant effect on improving students' critical thinking skills and collaboration, with the average N-Gain of the experimental class being 0.76, falling into the high category, higher than the control class with an average N-Gain of 0.51 in the moderate category. The calculation results of collaboration skills in the experimental class obtained an average of 89.24 in the very good category; this result has a higher increase compared to the control class at 83.69. The effect size test to determine how much effect occurs in a study showed a value of 0.847 (critical thinking) with the interpretation of a large effect. Thus, the PBL model has a significant effect on students' critical thinking skills and collaboration on climate change material.
