Declaration of Generative AI
Declaration of Generative AI in Scientific Writing
Authors submitting manuscripts to Jurnal Bioterdidik: Wahana Ekspresi Ilmiah (JBT) are required to disclose the use of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies in scientific writing, where applicable. This policy applies to the preparation and writing of manuscripts and does not automatically prohibit the use of specialized computational tools for data analysis, biological simulations, statistical analysis, or other legitimate research activities. Such tools must be used appropriately and reported when required by the journal or the relevant research methodology.
Guidelines for the Use of Generative AI
1. Language Quality and Readability Enhancement
Generative AI and AI-assisted technologies may be used to improve language quality, grammar, clarity, and readability during manuscript preparation. These tools must not replace the authors' scientific reasoning, critical interpretation, or original intellectual contributions.
2. Human Oversight and Responsibility
All AI-generated content must be carefully reviewed, verified, and edited by the authors. AI tools may produce inaccurate, incomplete, misleading, or biased information, including fabricated references or unsupported scientific claims. Authors retain full responsibility for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and final content of their manuscripts.
3. Authorship Criteria
Generative AI tools and AI-assisted technologies must not be listed as authors or co-authors. Authorship requires human intellectual contribution, accountability, and responsibility for the published work. Authors must ensure that all individuals listed as authors meet the journal's authorship criteria.
Procedure for Declaring the Use of AI
When generative AI or AI-assisted technologies have been used in manuscript writing, authors must include a declaration at the end of the manuscript upon initial submission. The statement will be included in the published article and placed in a dedicated section before the References.
Required Section Title
Declaration of the Use of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies in Writing
Statement Format
"During the preparation of this manuscript, the authors used [NAME OF TOOL/SERVICE] for [PURPOSE/REASON, e.g., improving English/Indonesian grammar and readability]. Following the use of this tool, the authors thoroughly reviewed and edited the content and take full responsibility for all the content of the published article."
This declaration is not required for the use of basic spelling and grammar checkers or reference management software, such as Microsoft Word spell-check, Grammarly's basic proofreading functions, Mendeley, or Zotero, when these tools are used only for their conventional purposes and do not generate substantive manuscript content.
If no generative AI tools have been used in preparing the manuscript, authors are not required to include this declaration. Authors should consult the journal's current AI Usage Policy for additional requirements.
Policy for Reviewers and Editors
To protect authors' intellectual property and maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts, reviewers and editors must not upload unpublished manuscripts, confidential research data, or identifying information to external generative AI services without explicit authorization under applicable journal policies.
Reviewers and editors must exercise independent professional judgment when evaluating manuscripts and making editorial decisions. They remain responsible for the confidentiality, fairness, and integrity of the peer-review process. Any use of AI-assisted technologies in editorial work must comply with the journal's current policies and applicable ethical standards.
Policy Review and Updates
Jurnal Bioterdidik: Wahana Ekspresi Ilmiah (JBT) recognizes that AI technologies continue to evolve. The editorial board may review and update this policy when necessary to ensure that the use of AI remains consistent with academic integrity, research transparency, confidentiality, and responsible scholarly publishing.
